A Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) feeder container vessel has fought off a pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea.

The 1,728-teu MSC Elsa 3 (built 1997) was approached 49 nautical miles (91 km) south-east of Brass, Nigeria, by a skiff containing six or seven suspects, security consultancy Ambrey said.

Non-essential crew mustered in the citadel while the captain and two officers remained on the bridge.
