General National Maritime Transport Co (GNMTC) has completed the purchase of a modern tanker at a surprisingly robust price.

The Libyan state company took delivery of the 112,000-dwt Ionic Anemos (built 2020) earlier this month. The vessel, which was originally ordered by Greece’s Ionic Shipping, already sails under its new name of Ebn Hawkel.

TradeWinds reported last month that GNMTC was in talks to buy the vessel as part of a search for high-specification, scrubber-equipped aframax tankers built to the International Maritime Organization's newer Tier III emission standards.
