The controversial issue of Brazilian “vessel blocking” has finally come back to bite Petrobras — as the state oil giant is exposed to hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign shipowners’ legal claims over scores of early charter terminations through the offshore downturn.

Surprisingly, many offshore owners’ lawsuits, both active and potential ones, have a “reasonably high probability of success”, according to Norwegian law firm BAHR.
