Russian shipowner Fesco has clinched a contract to supply Indian research stations in the Antarctic.

The deal with India's National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) will see the 10,700-dwt Vasiliy Golovnin (built 1988) deliver general cargo, food products and fuel to the Bharati and Maitri bases.

NCPOR scientists will also join the expedition to carry out activities in the polar region.
