Owners of UK-flagged vessels will have to pay crew if they are held captive by pirates or armed robbers under new legislation.

The new legislation enacts amendments made by the International Maritime Organization’s Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) into UK law.

The amendments will come into force internationally on 26 December.
