A Marshall Islands diplomat has called for shipping regulators to reject a series of short-term measures to curb the industry’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Ambassador Albon Ishoda urged signatories of the Tony Brum Declaration, which is committed to a reduction in shipping's greenhouse gasses, not to mandate the measures that are to be put in front of the International Maritime Organization for approval in a weeklong meeting that started Monday.
