Shipowners have been warned about the consequences of misdeclaring fuel in Turkey as spot inspections rise.
UK insurer Standard Club told its members that vessels trading there are facing increasing "sudden and unannounced inspections" by Turkish customs.
"In particular, a number of incidents have been reported where custom officials have boarded ships for the purpose of checking the ship’s actual fuel quantity against the one declared on arrival," it added.
