An International Labour Organization (ILO) Committee of Experts has ruled that national signatories to the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC) have failed in their legal responsibility to provide a duty of care to seafarers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ruling follows a joint complaint to the United Nations body by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
