A fire on a semi-submersible drilling rig operating in the North Sea has been extinguished, according to a statement from Statoil.

The fire in an engine room aboard the Scarabeo 5 was initially reported at around 17:30 local time on Tuesday.

The Norwegian state-owned oil major says firefighters were able to put the fire out by around 20:30 that same evening.

There were 106 persons on board when the incident occurred; all of them are accounted for and none are missing.
