India is close to ratifying the IMO’s Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC) in a major boost to attempts to bring the regulation into force globally.

Malini Shankar, India’s Director General of Shipping says that the HKC is part of a new Indian shipping act that is before the country’s parliament.

The IMO’s ballast water convention is also part of the act.
