The shipbuilding industry is finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel after going through a tough and painful restructuring process that saw considerable human resources and construction facilities sacrificed to accommodate the market downturn.

The number of newbuilding orders placed last year jumped around 2.5 times the levels seen in 2016, reaching 411 vessels compared to 166, according to Banchero Costa.
