Ships may have to get smaller again if decarbonisation targets are to be met, the TradeWinds Japanese Shipowners Forum has been told.

Takashi Nakabe, president of shipbuilder Onomichi Dockyard, said shipping and shipbuilding have to be reimagined from "a zero point".

Nakabe said that 200 or 300 years ago, small vessels were built out of wood.
