China is at risk of losing small to medium-size privately owned shipyards amid the uncertainty of a weak shipbuilding market and the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Dr Li Sheng, president of Singapore-based Mainland Shipping.

According to Li, private yards face two disadvantages compared with state-owned outfits, as they lack the support of both banks and state.
