Clarksons Research is predicting an upturn in shipbuilding output in the next decade after a slump in the second half of the 2010s.

Deliveries of new ships hit a "staggering" 1.2bn dwt in the decade just ended, Clarksons data reveals, a fourfold increase on the 1990s, helping the fleet grow by 70%.

But this only tells half the story, the research division of shipbroker Clarksons added.
