VLCC newbuilding prices have pushed up to the highest level in three years, according to Charles R Weber.

The brokerage places a new VLCC at competitive South Korean and Japanese yards at over $90m, a level not seen since 2015.

“The rise in prices comes despite the fact ordering activity at tanker‐competitive yards remains muted across key marine segments, including tankers and bulkers,” head of tanker research George Los wrote in an update to clients.
