Three leading Greek shipping companies are vying for a long-term contract to provide suezmax newbuildings to Chevron.

Shipping market sources said the California energy giant is seeking to charter the newbuildings for more than five years.

John Angelicoussis-backed Maran Tankers, Latsis family-controlled Consolidated Marine Management (CMM) and Tsakos Group are said to be competing for the Chevron contract.

South Korean enquiries

Shipping sources added that the trio have approached South Korean-controlled shipyards for the 156,000-dwt crude carriers.
