The US Maritime Administration (MarAd) is studying a programme that would aim to bolster the US-flag fleet by providing support for a fleet of tankers.

Maritime Administrator Mark Buzby told the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum USA in Houston today that the discussions are focused on a tanker sector scheme resembling the Maritime Security Program (MSP), which provides more than $5m per year to 60 US-flag ships.
