Formosa Plastics Marine Corp (FPMC) is considering entering the stainless-steel chemical tanker sector.
Market sources said the Taipei shipowner is in contact with yards in South Korea and Japan for a series of newbuildings. The Formosa Plastics Group subsidiary is said to be seeking up to four 19,500-dwt vessels.
One shipbuilding source believes Japan’s Shin Kurushima Dockyard and Kitanihon Zosen, as well as Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering of South Korea, have been approached.
