NYK and its group company Nippon Yuka Kogyo have developed what they say is the first IMO 2020-compliant additive for very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO).
The idea is for the product, Yunic 800VLS, to help prevent engine problems that could be caused by certain constituents of the fuel.
NYK said it began examining VLSFO at an early stage and developed Yunic to disperses asphaltene and paraffin to suppress sludge formation.
