VLCC and suezmax volumes are falling from the Gulf of Guinea as Nigerian crude production slumps.

Crude oil tonne-miles out of the region are down 5.9% so far in 2022, according to shipowner’s organisation Bimco.

Chief shipping analyst Niels Rasmussen said the Gulf of Guinea has contributed 13.7% of VLCC tonne-miles in 2022, and 16.5% for suezmaxes.

He identified a 13.5% year-on-year drop in Nigerian crude output as the main drain on demand.
