VLCC deliveries are running at their highest level since 1976, according to shipowners' organisation Bimco.
It said there has been "staggering" fleet growth this year of 8% to November.
Shipyards have handed over 65 big tankers, the highest in 43 years.
These equate to capacity of 19m dwt.
