BMT Group of the UK has been brought in to carry out marine and port assessments for the new $50bn Nicaragua Canal.
Its BMT Asia Pacific and BMT ARGOSS units have signed deals with the waterway’s builder, Hong Kong Nicaragua Canal Development Group (HKND).
“Our study will seek to articulate a solution that minimises canal excavation while ensuring adequate canal capacity and safety,” said BMT Asia Pacific managing director Richard Colwill.
“A crucial part of that solution involves sophisticated navigation and transport simulation, which will set the basis for identifying a design that balances excavation cap-ex with operational safety, efficiency and capacity.”
