Spot rates for VLCCs and aframaxes continued recent slides on Monday, as suezmaxes jumped.

The mixed fortunes came on a day that saw the European Union launch its oil embargo and the $60 price cap on Russian crude set in, with both measures expected to bring gains for the dirty tanker sector.

“The market continues to trade softly,” Howe Robinson said of the VLCC market in its daily report.
