The American Maritime Partnership has honored the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings for his staunch support of the US Jones Act during his political career.

Cummings, who spoke for residents of Baltimore, Maryland, in the US House of Representatives, died Thursday morning at the age of 68 due to health problems.

The city native and resident served as chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform from 1996 up until the time of his death.
