Norwegian ferry company Fjord Line has hired Brian Thorsted Hansen as its new CEO.

Hansen, 52, comes from a position at Denmark’s DFDS, where he serves as director in charge of the passenger department. He will start his new position on 18 January.

His predecessor at Fjord Line, Rickard Ternblom, left Fjord Line with immediate effect in October. Hansen said he will spend extensive time meetings with the employees as well as the the partners and customers of Fjord Line.

Company chairman Peter Frolich said he is very pleased that Hansen accepted the offer.

“He has long experience from the business segment both from operations and management,” Frolich said.

Ternblom had been Fjord Line CEO since 2015.

Fjord Line operates routes linking Norway, Sweden and Denmark and has suffered losses due to Covid-19.

One of its ships, the 1,500-passenger Stavangerfjord (built 2013), will likely be laid up until 2021, the company announced in October. The company has laid off 300 staff members since August.

Frode Teigen owns 52.2% of the shares in Fjord Line, while Johan H Andresen has 44.6%.
