Iran has renewed its efforts to export oil from the Gulf of Oman as the key waterway of the Strait of Hormuz remains the centre of geopolitical tension.

The Opec member on Thursday officially restarted construction of the 1,000-km Goureh-Jask oil pipeline, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said in a broadcast speech reported by various media outlets.

The project is designed to transport sour crude or condensate from the southern Bushehr province to Bandar-e-Jask, where 20 tanks each with a capacity of 500,000 barrels will be built.
