A mooted ban on tankers aged more than 25 years from calling into Indian ports would have affected only 11 vessels if it was in force last year, according to analysis by VesselsValue.
The proposal, reported by Indian media, would stop port calls by old vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers and general cargo vessels, to help reduce maritime carbon emissions and to prevent spills.
The move would apply to 15% of the global tanker fleet but would have only a limited impact as just 11 vintage tankers completed journeys into Indian ports in 2022, according to VesselsValue.
