Diversity is an important theme for Lois Zabrocky, as it must be for any chief executive today.

But when it comes to the issue of being a woman in what traditionally has been a man’s business, on balance she is clear that her career has not been sidetracked by gender bias.

After going to sea with OMI Corp in 1991 — “when you just get your licence and you’re the only woman on board, it’s not like you’re hanging out watching movies with the guys” — Zabrocky came ashore as the first female in the Maritime Overseas Corp (MOC) chartering department.
