Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is to work with trading giant Trafigura to set up a biofuel supply system for its chemical tankers worldwide.

The cooperation deal aims to establish bunkering services providing low-carbon biodiesel (BDF) for the fleet of MOL Chemical Tankers (MOLCT).

Trafigura will use the expertise of its bunkering venture with John Fredriksen’s Frontline and Golden Ocean.

The two sides will carry out a joint study on “full-scale” supply of the sustainable fuel, they said.

As a part of this work, the companies have already conducted a sea trial using TFG Marine-supplied biodiesel on MOL’s 25,200-dwt chemical tanker Niseko Galaxy (built 2020).
