In the diversified Danish owner’s autumn newsletter Lars Bagge Christensen said oil traders and majors like Vitol, Glencore, BP, Shell, Total, Petrobras and ExxonMobil often opt for green tonnage when given the choice as they want to be perceived as environmentally conscious.

“The customers know that the existing fleet is conventional in terms of fuel consumption,” he continued. “But when they charter in newly built tonnage they have a choice, and therefore, they only choose Eco tonnage with a significantly lower fuel consumption.”
