He is among several prominent owners with tonnage on long term charter or leaseback to the beleaguered tanker owner.

His exposure comes via the charter of several handysize product tankers to OSG by Diamond S Shipping.

Last year Ross took a large stake in the Connecticut-based owner-led by former OMI Corp chief executive Craig H Stevenson.

He led a group of private-equity investors who pumped about $1bn into the shipowner, which had earlier acquired 30 MR tankers from Cido Shipping.

Ironically at a speech at Marine Money Asia in Singapore last month he said the charters on the ships had justified the deal.

He said the Cido ships “happily had above market rate charters which carried over to us and had about four years and a couple of months to run."

It has six ships fixed to OSG – the 47,128-dwt Atlantic Leo, Atlantic Aquarius, Atlantic Grace and Atlantic Star (all built 2008) and Atlantic Pisces and Atlantic Polaris (both built 2009).

All six ships have remaining charters that scheduled end sometime between early 2014 and mid-to-late 2019.

A quick glance OSG’s fleet list dated 30 July 2012 posted on its website reveals that about 40% of its fleet is chartered in.

Capital Product Partners has had three ships on ten-year charters to OSG since 2008 each with purchase options exercisable towards the end of the fixtures.

The ships involved are the 51,000-dwt Overseas Serifos, the Overseas Sifnos and the Overseas Kimolos (all built 2008) all fixed at $13,000 per day.

DHT Maritime has four ships on charter to OSG – a throwback to the days when it was spun-off from the company in 2005.

The ships are the 309,207-dwt DHT Ann (built 2001), the 153,000-dwt Overseas London (built 2000), the 164,000-dwt Overseas Newcastle (built 2001) and the 111,198-dwt Overseas Cathy (built 2004).

TheNewcastle is on charter until 2014 at $25,343 per day, while the London isfixed on bareboat until 2018 at $26,630 per day.

TheAnn, which is fixed at $38,500, and the Cathy, which is earning $25,700 perday, are due to come off time charters in January and April 2013.

Turkish owner Yasa Shipping has three ships fixed to OSG – the 158,484 Yasa Orion (built 2012) until 2015 and the 115,867-dwt Yasa Golden Bosphorus (built 2007) and the 110,769-dwt Yasa Golden Marmara (built 2008) until late 2013.

Other owners with ships chartered to OSG include Parakou, Lauritzen Tankers, Seaarland, Groton Pacific Carriers, Epic Shipping, Schoeller and Troy Shipping.
