Low-profile players from Greece and Asia have emerged as being behind a string of deals with Azerbaijan state energy company Socar for some of its oldest and largest tankers.

Brokers in London and Athens report Socar’s last suezmax, the 164,500-dwt Supreme (built 2002), as sold for more than $15m.

Socar did not respond to a request for comment.

Broker reports of the Supreme's buyers differ.
