The return of Iran and Venezuela to above-board oil trades may not spell the end of the tanker “ghost fleet”, according to analysis from Gibsons Shipbrokers.

The broker said the number of ageing VLCC and suezmax tankers carrying Iranian and Venezuelan oil in defiance of US sanctions totals more than 150 and that at least some could find work in a reshuffled oil trade where the global west shuns Russia.
