Two Iranian-flagged tankers reportedly transporting fuel oil to Venezuela are reported to have sailed around the Cape of Good Hope en route to the Atlantic.

Tracking data showed the 35,200-dwt Forest and Fortune (both built 2004) have opted for this route rather than transit the Suez Canal, Reuters reported.

“The decision to go around the southern tip of Africa rather than through Suez, despite being a longer routing, achieves a number of aims,” Munro Anderson of security consultancy Dryad Global told TradeWinds.
