As Greens gear up for the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez disaster Tuesday the 212,000-dwt tanker which caused the spill appears to have entered shipping’s very own version of witness protection.

The 212,000-dwt Exxon Valdez (built 1986) grounded at Prince William Sound on 24 March 1989, spilling 37,000 tonnes of oil.

It has undergone four name changes since it grounded on Bligh Reef at Prince William Sound in 1989 spilling 37,000 tonnes of oil and has now had some serious life-changing surgery.
