Norway's AqualisBraemar LOC is to develop Europe's first hydrogen fuel cell-powered ropax.

The company has been appointed by Scottish state-owned Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL) to design the emission-free passenger and car ferry as part of Hyseas III, a Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Union.

The companies aim to demonstrate that fuel cells can be successfully integrated with a proven marine hybrid electric drive system, along with associated hydrogen storage and bunkering arrangements.
