Norwegian shipowners have declared highly ambitious goals to order only zero emission ships within ten years and for their entire fleet to be climate neutral by 2050.

In a bid to take leadership in the fight against climate challenges, the Norwegian Shipowners' Association this week set four far-reaching goals for its members:

* To cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% per transported unit from 2008 levels by 2030

* To only order ships based on zero emission technology from 2030

* For the Norwegian fleet to be carbon neutral from 2050

* For an international ban on non-carbon fuel types from 2050
