Greek vessel optimisation pioneer Roberto Coustas is advising owners to act now on artificial intelligence (AI) to drive vessel optimisation and lock in fuel savings.

The co-founder of DeepSea Technologies, and son of Danaos Corp supremo John Coustas, is expanding the company’s operations, seeking to leverage what he believes is a unique approach to efficiency using AI and machine learning.

The Pythia platform uses weather data and vessel DNA to predict a ship’s performance with 99% accuracy, Coustas told TradeWinds, claiming this results in an 8% to 10% reduction in fuel consumption.
