Shell has taken a leading position on the IMO’s incoming regulations to reduce sulphur emissions from ships. It has told the industry it will be prepared when the rules come into force on 1 January 2020.

Shell Shipping & Maritime vice president Grahaeme Henderson stresses that every ship the company operates and charters will be compliant.

He says Shell has vessels on spot charter that will come off hire before the deadline, and for those it takes on, “we will make sure that, as far as we can verify, they are compliant”.
