Marinakis’ Olympiakos marks 'homecoming' of football great

Evangelos Marinakis might be better known for his astute shipping deals, but it looks as if he has pulled off a footballing coup.
The footy-mad Greek shipowner has managed to sign former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure for his club, Olympiakos.
Forest boss jettisoned by MarinakisThis marks a return to the Greek side for the four-time African Footballer of the Year after an absence of 12 years.
Marinakis, who has owned Olympiakos since 2010, described Toure as “the most high-profile free-agent in world football”.
The Ivorian international, 35, played for the Piraeus-based side during the 2005 to 2006 season, scoring three goals in 20 matches.
'Magnificent leader'
“When I realised that for Yaya the idea of him returning to Olympiakos was like returning home, the only option for me was to fulfil his needs and make sure that a dream comes true for our supporters and for Yaya. I have little doubt that he will be a magnificent leader both on and off the pitch,” Marinakis said.
“Several clubs from around the world competed to sign Toure as the legendary player faced a big decision as to where to see out his career. Toure is one of the great player brands in the world of football and he undoubtedly adds to the lustre and brand value of Olympiakos.”
After one season at the Greek Super League club, Toure joined Monaco before moving to Barcelona between 2007 and 2010.
After Gulf-based owners injected huge funds into Manchester City, Toure was one of the key signings that helped the club win three Premier League titles.
