Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has upgraded and enlarged what was one of the industry’s most popular handymax designs to meet demand for more fuel-efficient and bigger bulkers.

The Japanese shipyard has unveiled the latest in the Tsuneishi Economical Standard Ship (TESS) series, a 63,700-dwt design that it claims is up to 20% more efficient than the current Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standard for newbuildings.
