The General Court of the European Union (EU) has annulled sanctions that were placed against National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) in October 2012. In short, the court ruled that the underlying claims made against the company by the Council of the EU to justify the sanctions were invalid.

When it first sanctioned NITC, the Council claimed that the company was under the control of the Iranian government, with its ships and profits used to support the government and its controversial nuclear programme.
