Under the radar, however, the Norwegian-born magnate has quietly purchased between five and seven ships this year. Most have been in the panamax or kamsarmax segments in deals concluded before prices started climbing.
In May, the 79,000-dwt Peruvian Express (built 2012) was said to have gone to an undisclosed buyer. Broker estimates for the deal on the Cosco Dalian-built ship varied from $19m to $22.6m.
