An air of expansion in London’s shipping law firm market before and after the 2008 crisis has been followed by fragmentation over the past 18 months.

A trend observed since 2015 has continued through to the end of this summer with the formation of smaller boutique firms, manned by former partners of the big brands.

Partners from newly established companies tell TradeWinds that the diversification of bigger shops and the importance of personal relationships in this niche market means fragmentation is a natural development.
