A numerous and lively crowd of mainly Chinese delegates found plenty of controversial questions to put to the distinguished speakers last week at Shanghai’s Senior Maritime Forum.

Too bad for them that when question time came, the dignitaries they were keen to grill had largely departed the dais.

The three-day forum was well-attended by shipbuilding, shipping and finance folk. But delegates were told to hold their questions until the floor was opened for a daily closing panel, to which all speakers were instructed to return.
