China’s northern group of major shipyards is plotting mergers and TradeWinds understands the first pair to join forces will be Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry and nearby ship and rig yard Qingdao Wuchuan Heavy Industry.
Both are under the umbrella of Beijing-based China Shipbuilding Industry Corp (CSIC), whose overall chairman, Hu Wenming, was moved north earlier this year after overseeing a series of yard mergers during his three-year tenure at the helm of the southern China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC).
