Shipowners' organisation Bimco is drawing up new standard paperwork for contracts of affreightment (COA) agreements due to the rise in cargo volumes being shipped under such deals.

It cited raw materials such as bauxite, coal and iron ore as increasingly being transported under COA contracts.

"The current lack of a widely used standard form of COA often results in protracted and time-consuming contractual negotiations," it added.
