The master of an asphalt tanker has been convicted in Australia of failing to report without delay a main engine breakdown off southern Queensland.

The unnamed man pleaded guilty. He was fined AUD 3,000 ($2,050) and a conviction was recorded.

The incident, involving the 14,500-dwt Asphalt Spirit (built 2012), occurred last January when it was en route from South Korea to Australia carrying 14,000 tonnes of asphalt.
