Japan’s Nisshin Shipping has sold its single, speculatively-ordered LNG carrier newbuilding at a loss as it opts to duck out of the sector before taking delivery of its vessel.

Clarksons reported that a 174,000-cbm LNG carrier — referenced as Hull No 2319 — has been sold for $160m.

Hull No 2319, which is on order at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, is listed on the broker’s Shipping Intelligence Network as having been contracted by Nisshin in March 2019 at $191.3m,
