Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co president Kenji Kawano is proud of controlling two shipbuilding companies outside Japan and that the overseas units enable it to remain competitive.
Kawano believes they give the Hiroshima-based outfit an edge over its compatriots in the face of a strong yen and high operating costs.
“The labour costs in overseas shipyards are lower than Japan’s,” Kawano said.
